TIPS FOR PLANNING A MILESTONE SESSION | STEPHANIE ERIN PHOTOGRAPHY | ST GEORGE UTAH PHOTOGRAPHER

Milestone sessions are for all ages! During your baby's first year I recommend a newborn session followed by a tummy time session, then a sitter session, and lastly a one year session. After the first year, I recommend planning for your child's yearly session as well as any other milestones in-between such as baptism, first year of school, a new puppy or pet, riding a bike, rodeo, concert or dance performance, and any other milestone you wish to commemorate.

Planning ahead is the best way to ensure that your photo session goes smoothly. Here are some key points to consider when booking your child's next milestone with me!

Arrive Early

If you show up late or not ready, you will have less time with the camera. If your child is not ready (hair done & dressed in their outfit for the session), arrive to the location a few minutes early so you are able to do so before the session starts.

Outfits & Clothing

Depending on the type of session, you might want to consider bringing one or two additional outfit for your baby. Stephanie Erin Photography has a studio full of designer outfits for your use. Feel free to ask for help when choosing a couple outfits for your child's session. Multiple outfits help create different looks for your gallery.

Here are a few rules I like to stick to:

-Avoid stripes, plaid and patterns. Solid colors photograph much better. Large prints are distracting, though florals and small sections of prints can pull an outfit together.

-Vary your choices. Do not bring 3 outfits all in the same color or style. Choose colors that go together, but are different. White is always my go to, then cream, grey or beige. Choose a romper, a dress or overalls, and something else!

Also, please remove any nail polish before the session!

Capturing the moment

Every client expects Pinterest worthy images, and that is okay! Also realize your baby has their own personality and THAT is what I am going to capture.

It's very easy to assume you need to be behind me trying to get your baby to smile at the camera, but instead of you doing all the work, allow me! Though I do require you to be close to your baby, I will be the one interacting with your child.

Keep in mind the less people and stimulus around me gives your baby the opportunity to focus on me and my camera. This is why I recommend not bringing grandparents or additional siblings to your child's session. If you do choose to add on sibling photos, please arrange for them to leave or even be babysat in the car after the first 15-30 minutes of the session.

Props

I LOVE PROPS!

I have a prop addiction! I will provide any props we need, but feel free to bring any props you desire. I usually only have time for 2-3 props per session. Try to keep any props you wish to bring as non-commercial, vintage, or soft colored props

Your session should be stress free - and I will always strive to keep your photo session as stress free as possible. Following these tips will help both of us prepare and execute your milestone session properly.
